| GEESE #2 This one wasn't working because the masking had left the white areas of the paper roughened. I'm not sure if masking fluid has an expiry time limit or not. Does anyone know??? |

| GEESE # 3 Been working on this one, on and off, for the past two days. I've reached the point where some background should be placed. One idea would be to do a very thin wash around the geese, with an irregular [hopefully interesting] top-line. The color would be a light greyed brown; then I would add some lines and shapes, indicating grass at the side of the path. But it's getting late, and I have to be in the office tomorrow, so best to leave this till Saturday ... Your comments are always welcome! |
What a shame!!! I HATE masking fluid - I've never got on with it and often find it rips the paper, particularly if left for a long time.

I still like the look of it white! Although the top one with the grass suggested looks good too. *sigh* backgrounds are hell aren't they? Good luck!
ReplyDeleteMasking fluid definitely has a shelf life has been my experience--it's a lot like "White Out."
ReplyDeleteI still think geese one is savable. Darken the rest of the grasses. The orange of their legs brings them forward and is strong enough to allow darkening the other areas that you didn't. Don't throw it away. Get over being disgusted with it.

ReplyDeleteKathryn, do you mask over painted areas? I have a watercolor friend who does that with good results. I've tried to do it a couple of times and it lifts some the paint under it. Masking liquid is tricky and I've had problems with leaving it on the (unpainted) paper too long and it not wanting to come off. What kind do you use? I've been using Pebeo Drawing Gum. I like that it's grey and I can see where it is!

ReplyDeleteDear Kathryn:) It's already been said: masking fluid can not stay on the paper for ever. Maybe one night but then you should peel it off. That's my experience. And the better the quality of the paper the less damage you will have. Good luck with the background....:)
