I Can't Believe I've Been Working on a Sketch of Geese for the Last Two Hours

All evening, I have been playing with composition, format, and then refining the sketch. I think this will do. It will probably be about 9 x 14 inches when finished. I'm keen to start as I have some interesting ideas I'd like to try for the background.
I also spent 2 hours in the rain this afternoon, removing the old electric wire from His Highness's paddock, then trimming any interfering branches, and finally re-wiring the entire area. It seems to be working, as His Nibs was making his dragon-breathing sounds when I went out to feed him dinner. I don't like electric fencing, but I like even less the damage horses can do if left to their own devices.
That's it for tonight. I'm working in the office tomorrow, and quite looking forward to the change.

  1. Geese can make time fly--as can composing a gaggle of them in a confined space. The time was well spent though. They are waddling across the picture plane to I don't know where as yet. Looking forward to finding out.

  3. the geese are coming out well, a very nice subject! It reminds me of a painting that I have in postcard form on my door. Its the old one by a Glasgow artist of the girl in a hat and all the geese walking in front of her.

  5. You have an interesting start, lots of action suggested and of course their personality. I know what you mean about the fencing but horses are very delicate and really need that protection. Enjoy your day

  6. These geese are hilarious, their way of walking always make me laugh, and you caught it perfectly. Looking forward to seeing what you have in mind with this.
You are certainly a busy lady doing so many different things, I would call you a 'handy woman' :-) Wish you a nice weekend. Hugs!

It sounds like you really do live the good life! There is nothing like being knee deep in mud and soaking wet, is there? :0)

  8. Seems like a very interesting composition -- I like the patterns formed by the shapes in between the geese. Let me say you are really good at drawing! Even though these are just simple lines, they already convey a likeliness as well as personalities... ;-)
