I have darkened the greens with a thin glaze of the same violet I am using on the petals. To bring the eye more to the upper right, I am glazing the petals with a warm [more pink] or cool violet - permanent rose and indanthrone blue. This is another painting I want to mount and varnish, to show at the gallery in Vancouver next month. The allusion to Nero is that I feel it's too much time spent on something this small [6 x 8 inches] and that won't sell. Yes, I am having a bit of a bad day with regards to my painting. Probably a good time to leave this, and go play with Bruno! |
This is beautiful...I love seeing the progress of the piece.
ReplyDeleteThis painting caught my eye this morning. I thought then and I think now it is lovely. I like the pristine feel to it. As for the time spent, the Mona Lisa is a small painting--okay not this small, but something like 18 x 24--or less. Leonardo spent a lot of his life time on it. Some painting can be very demanding.
ReplyDeleteThe flower is great and life is good. Nero couldn't go out and play with Bruno when things were bad so you are way ahead of him!! Keep up the good work, your pictures just keep getting better and better.
ReplyDeleteIt looks so gorgeous against that dark background! It really makes the light sing! :0)
ReplyDeleteThis is coming along so beautifully, Kathryn! Walk away...and
ReplyDeleteplay with Bruno. When you come back you'll see it differently.
I think its an amazing painting already!!
I love such flower paintings of yours.. I think its coming out really well. And all the best for the show. By the way I heard this quote somewhere..
ReplyDelete"If I could sell my paintings I would have been a salesman not an artist". So dont worry about the sales dear artist. :)
I think Linda said the right thing , I agree with her , but I can well follow your thoughts.
ReplyDeleteIt's looking amazing to me, Kathryn...and I'm taking notes!
ReplyDeleteWow, what an incredible flower! I like how you have zoomed in on this huge flower and painted it in a closely cropped composition.
ReplyDeleteHi my friend- sorry I have not traveled much,,, but here I am to look at the beauty you create!! And you are!

Your work is beautiful as always! Don't despair, though. Sometimes painting is about the process, not the product. It is the joy you feel from doing something that you truly love. That joy does come through in your work and it extends into all aspects of your life, making you the wonderful person that you are. Please give Bruno a hug for me.
ReplyDeleteleslie is so right ..hope you've looked at your beautiful painting with fresh eyes katharyn ... will look good varnished
