A "YES" for Voodoo ... Not Sure about the Farrier Scene

Voodoo is looking very Voodoo-ish, which is good. It's time to start a background - something darker at the edges and on the left side of the painting, mostly blues I think.

I painted a quick study for the background of the farrier painting ...

... then cut it out, and taped it over the open doorway.

I masked the edges [don't think I had to do that] and did some wet-in-wet washes to imply a field with trees in the distance. I really do not like how it looks. This morning, I wet the area, and lifted as much as I could. Whether it will improve with finishing the horse, and darkening the farrier, I don't know. I very much like the pose, with the two bums facing the viewer, but I don't think this does it for me. Maybe a smaller format, focussing more on the two figures??? What do you think?

Thank you all for dropping by!

  1. what a beautiful horse! you made me laugh about the two bums.....had the same situation once with some cowpokes sitting on a railing with their bums hanging kind of over the railing. I put assorted pockets on all the jeans right where the bum was and it actually saved it from looking liked naked bums:):): Maybe pockets would "dress" this bum too:) I like the composition and it looks like it is on the way to being another beauty. Thanks for the inspiration.

  2. ohhh now I just clicked on the foto to enlarge it....I see there are pockets there. I did some of my pockets in negative and some in positive. I can see where neg pockets could work here....or one half neg, half pos....if that even makes any sense:)

  3. I love the view from the back too. Perfect! I'm intrigued as to why you painted the background on a separate piece of paper though... Or am I reading that wrong??

  6. This is so fun to follow! :) I have one idea for the open doorway now when it is the second time around I come and visit! Why don´t you make a wooden fence out there, in about the same color as the wall to the right. It would conect the two upper parts. And you could put a small childrens face there, peeking around the corner of the wall from the outside....just thinking! I am very excited about how you will continue :) See you again soon! 8. I think the focus should be on the bums, the background is not important so no details there. Just my opinion.... looking forward to what you come up with. :)

  9. Not sure how it happened, but in making changes to my blog, I accidentally deleted your blog! So now have to catch up with all you've been doing :) I think the bums should be IN YOUR FACE and you could call it Bottoms Up! ha ha LOVE the top painting - the ripples and shapes and shades just make me want to look and look and look! Beautiful.

  10. I think a slighter tighter crop would work - taller and narrower ... love the bums!

  13. Dear Kathrina:) Wow this is so original! It made me smile because of the two behinds. You did a wonderful job on the background too. Don't change to much. It's beautiful as it is. But, knowing you, you will make a change or two:) Great art! Have a nice sunday:) xxx
