Bruno munching away on his winter supply of hay.
The photos do not have too much in the way of explanation, but they do, in a small way. I was spurred to write after reading Judy Barends' blog. It is unseasonably hot and dry in the Netherlands, to the point where it is affecting food production. The same is happening here, and we are experiencing bad wildfires in the interior of the province. I know it is due to climate change, and I am saddened and angered by our provincial and national governments' lack of positive action in this regard. You appreciate, from my art subjects, how profoundly I love Nature, and to see it being destroyed is extremely distressing to me. I have written letters to various levels of government, and become involved with local groups. But I feel this is not nearly enough. I have been doing a lot of reading and research on different aspects of the overall problem, and have come to the conclusion that to achieve any meaningful change in the destructive direction the world's leaders have taken, a complete and radical transformation of the economy [which affects and is affected by social and behavioural qualities of human nature] is imperative.
Thank you for stopping by and reading ... |
So in Canada too. Something is very very wrong with the weather. And what I wrote on my blog is just some short lines from the news, but I hear nothing from government or EU that this prolonged drought must have enormous ramifications. One more day of 30 plus temperatures, and then a little cooler and a little rain.... according to the forecasts. Will it be enough? I admire you for writing letters. I am angry, just like you. And I feel completely powerless.
ReplyDeleteI guess for some reason I did not realize this was happening in your area and with your government, too. Everyone knows what a tragedy we have here in the USA - and it ain’t makin’ anything Great! I just read the EPA has opened up the nicotinoids as pesticides, because, you know, those bees don’t matter to me in my air conditioned penthouse :(. Grrrrrr. I wish I had the energy to fight - or feel that my fight would make a difference. But so glad others are willing to take up the mantle and push back. I think most artists have a special love of nature of all kinds and we don’t want to see it all made into a parking lot or brown as dirt everywhere.
ReplyDeleteIt seems to be too hot everywhere and it's been that way for too long. It's scary!
ReplyDeleteI commend you for getting involved with writing letters to the government and local groups in your area!!! It's when people like you get involved ....that they start to listen. I'm sorry that you're going through this and I fully agree!!!!! Sending hugs, my friend!!!!
ReplyDeleteKathryn, this post, "By Way of an Explanation . . ." really touched me this morning. I feel the same, distressed way you do. I am angry, frustrated and scared about what is happening to our planet with climate deniers and roll backs on environmental protections by our Governments. Mother Nature is hurting and showing us in a big way that she is stressed by all the extreme weather patterns, air and land pollution, dying oceans and extinction of many species, etc. Here in California we currently have about twenty major fires burning here; one of them up North, the largest in our history. There's flooding in the South and crazy weather all over the U.S. and that's just here! Besides spreading the word about climate change, supporting environmental groups and contacting our politicians, my hope is that these policymakers are voted out and replaced by policies that will save our environment . . . and us.
ReplyDeleteAfter such a long winter, a dry hot summer doesn't feel naturally balanced.
ReplyDeleteThe plastics choking ocean waters, I feel, is a highly serious problem that needs more attention by world governments to clean it up, and end all ocean dumping.
was very hot here too, but no drought conditions here in scotland that i know of. different story down south tho :/
