The leaves were much too bright, so I lifted a bit, and then went over them with aureolin and indanthrone blue. |
Here's the hummer, happily feasting at dinner time. As always, your comments are most welcome. |
Thoughts and tangential meanderings on horses, painting, and anything else that captures my interest

Sometimes a little pause is necessary to figure out how to go on. I often put a painting away for some time when I get stuck ...sometimes even for months :-) I am sure you will get the right inspiration :-) xx
ReplyDeleteIt's said that watercolour can't be corrected, but you are proof that it's just not true! You always lift, adjust and re-wash and yet it doesn't end up looking overworked like you'd think. Clever! As for backgrounds - ugh, I hate doing backgrounds! I have a portrait of a Labrador sitting in front of a bush to do in pastels next week. The lady wants the background which is just one mass of leaves! I'm not looking forward to that bit, lol :0)
ReplyDeleteIt all looks good to me, but if you need to think it through ... meanwhile, the hummer is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThe flowers are looking great and they will really stand out once you have the background in. Great shot of your hummer!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE how the leaves look, now that you fixed it..excellent. and great shot of the hummingbird in action!..
ReplyDeleteIt's going to be beautiful Kathryn,Can't wait to see it. I'm enjoying the hummers too. They zzoom thru the porch right next to me!take care,Diana
ReplyDeleteI love the hummer!!
ReplyDeleteAlso, have you tried graying the green with red?
I know it will work out no matter what. It always does.

I wonder how you do the background washes, Kathryn. Do you paint around the flower or do you somehow mask it? I ask this question as you are so accomplished and I had this dilemma on my recent watercolor. I ended up painting the background several times right around the horses. It seemed to work okay although I thought I should have done the background first! So many choices!
ReplyDeleteI just got back from the ocean and I ran over to see what kind of magic you are creating,, and you really are! Your leaves are beautiful!

I love those leaves Kathryn. You really proved that you were working out the solution in your mind with your fix. They look better than ever. :) And what a sweet little hummer.
ReplyDeleteWhat a patience must be needed to reach "the perfection"! I admire you! :-)
ReplyDeletehi Kathryn. beautiful work,really.
