I finally got a photo of this portrait in decent outdoor light. It makes such a difference. I have yet again darkened the entire background with a w/w wash, and am making very careful and thoughtful adjustments to the shadows of his face. Being a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, I think it would be a good idea to start entering some of my work in their shows. There is a "Works on Paper" show in January, and this is one of the paintings I am considering as an entry.
As always, your comments are most welcome! |
I am struggling with background and leaves, flowers come out fine!Keeping the background busy as well as neat looking- is a challenge.
ReplyDeleteThe monk painting looks fabulous, you should enter it in the show.

ReplyDeleteLove the gradated washes on the cows!
I know exactly what you mean by "organic"...sort of the opposite of "contrived","planned", or "man made". . It's a look I often try to achieve in my work.
Definitely enter your work! And...hooray for more COWS! :)

Definitely start entering your work. I am constantly amazed at your meticulous process and the wonderful results it yields. Merry Christmas and a healthy happy new year to you and Bruno and everyone else to love.
ReplyDeleteI like what is happening in the background, don't do too much detail back there. It has a great feel to it.
