Grays for shadows |
Start flesh tones and eyes. It really is looking quite scary at this point! |
Hair roughed in. More color in the face. |
Yet more hair and face colors. |
Two glazes of a black in shadow areas of cap. I wanted to use ultramarine, and it doesn't go as dark as I needed here. |
Your painting style is meticulous - I would love to see you paint and can imagine deep concentration - I love the bee further down and good idea to rough up Andy - he looks great as does this lovely lady. It's amazing you have time to paint with everything going on at the farm - I love this time of year when the hay is getting collected in and seeing the hay bales in the fields - would make a great painting!!
ReplyDeleteWow - it is really great! What a lovely keepsake - far nicer than a photo :0)
ReplyDeleteLovely work! I enjoyed seeing the step-by-step, too. I agree with your instinct about a light glaze of pink to brighter her up and have her skin not fade out against the blues. Really good! Is this family or a commission?
ReplyDeleteI love to see the step by step of this portrait, and also the one of Andy! I really like your meticulous way of painting!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful.. And thanks for showing how you do it.. I really cant do portraits. So this was learning for me.
ReplyDeleteKathryn, this is so beautiful. I can't wait till its finished...Wonderful piece!!!
ReplyDeleteYou have been totally involved and the results are wonderful. You've taken an ordinary reference photograph and turning it into a keepsake. I really like what I see here.
ReplyDeleteKathryn, your versatility is a joy to experience - from tiny bumble bees to breath taking portraiture!
ReplyDeletePerfect portrait. The model will surely love this. I agree with you that something that will either enhance the face colour or subdue the blue around her neck might make this gem shine even more :)
ReplyDeleteBest wishes,
Somebody is going to be really happy with this portrait!! Love your wip pictures, you do a terrific job. I admire anyone that paints portraits, they are a troubling subject matter for me.
ReplyDeleteHello Kathryn:) Thank you for showing the steps on this portret. I just finished a portret myself witch I will show tomorrow. Since I'm not a portret painter I took so now and then a look on your portraits. I hope you don't mind. Your portraits are lovely!
ReplyDeleteKathryn your portraits are beautiful! Each one you do is really coming along so beautifully. You have a knack for them for sure. I really love her happy smile and her skin tones. Lovely!
