I started very w/w, with the board at a slant. I don't usually do that, but I really liked how the paint flowed for the beginning of the portrait. |
The hair and the post were started w/w. |
Thicker color, painted wet on dry for the definition of the hair. |
Work on her features and the shadowing. |
Almost finished here. This photo was taken outside, and gives a much better idea of the true colors. |
Great to see the progression - and a fab ending, Kathryn! xx
ReplyDeleteAnd you are so good at portraits! The love is showing! Such a wonderful portrait, Kathryn!
ReplyDeleteLooks fantastic Kathryn. I didn't notice anything patchy about the nose. Nice work.
ReplyDeleteI love the build up, through to final success!!
ReplyDeletePity about the art day response ... on another day...!
It's a great portrait ! Did you protect any area to keep the light , for example on her lips ? xox
ReplyDeleteIt's always so fascinating to see how you get from a to z. This is just lovely and you should feel very pleased :0)
ReplyDeleteSO BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!! I hope you feel my excitement. I love this portrait...Your best...I love the softness and shadows in her face..you did an excellent job...You should be so proud!!!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful work! I enjoy seeing your process. Thanks so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWell done Kathryn! Her hair and her hand are absolutely real. I've heard one gallery owner's comment recently that when he receives the painting for the gallery to make decision to take it or not; the first thing he looks at the arms of the people on the picture.
ReplyDeleteYou won! He would definitely take yours for consideration :0)
Have a great day!
Irina
Love her, Kathryn - she turned out so wonderful! Her lips, her hands, her coloring - all of her! Bravo!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, Kathryn, you are done, it's lovely. I had a friend who did portraits and sometimes he would glaze with too much pink.. it was not good.. but yours is perfect.. I love it. Diana
