I just wasn't quite liking the way this looked ... |
So I started again, with a smaller format [ 7 x 7.5 in. ] and much more yellow in the flower. |
Then some orange siena |
Lots of playing back and forth with the alizarin and the orange. |
Thoughts and tangential meanderings on horses, painting, and anything else that captures my interest

That complimentary green really balances the painting. And I must take a bow because you can start a painting all over again and finish it. I can never do that.
ReplyDeleteBEAUTIFUL, Kathryn! I love the yellow, I am almost addicted to yellow for glow in a painting lately. In my experience yellow makes the reds more 'red'. Thanks for sharing the steps!
ReplyDeleteUsually I can see why you'd want to start again, even though I'd be inclined to finish each, as watercolour changes even as you progress.. but this time, I actually prefer the first. Nowt so queer as folk, eh? :)
ReplyDeleteI find it interesting to see you plan what has to be done at each stage. There's more to this painting business than just slapping on a bit of this and a bit of that, isn't there :0)
ReplyDeleteClever and a lovely outcome, Kathry.n
That's the beauty of watercolour - you can start again and reach the same stage in no time! It looks beautiful already :0)
ReplyDeleteThis is looking beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHow nice to see the progress in your work! I would love to do the same!
ReplyDeleteIt's looking beautiful Kathryn! I really like the color harmony this second one has. And the close crop really makes it pop! :)
ReplyDeleteGood call and good eye for this one - you made it more powerful by giving it more space in the picture plane and you gave us a little extra with the leaf. Beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteI think the top one also has a character of its own. Must appreciate your resolve to be critical of your work. I wish I could also do the same.

ReplyDeleteI can't believe you started all over again....but the second one is stunning too...yes, too..because I actually like the first one very much. Either way you just do stunning work ! xx
ReplyDeleteWhat a tiny little gem!
ReplyDeleteTruly beautiful, Kathryn!!!
