I needed a complementary background ... |
And I needed something light and loose to suggest foliage ... so I taped off the image as best as I could with Saran wrap and masking tape, and did a splatter and spray with aureolin and cobalt blue. |
It's turned out all right, and there was only a bit of leakage onto the pony-tail. I'll touch it up a bit tomorrow. |
I've also been playing around with this sweet pea, but it's just not grabbing my focus. As always, your comments are most welcome! |
Well I think you did more than a fair job with that saran wrap. The background looks good--great--just the right values for the figure and if there are any seepage spots on the pony tail they are minute. I can't see them. I do admire your knowledge of watercolor techniques and your patience to work with them.
ReplyDeleteThe portrait looks very good now. I think you have done the background very well in both the paintings. Nive new technique.

Kathryn, your portrait is looking fabulous! I love what you did with the background. It's soft and it does give it the foliage look you were after. The flower is coming along really nice so far too. I think you just have to sit back and go slow and before you know it, your darks and lights will be there. Your florals always turn out wonderful!
ReplyDeleteExcellent choice on the background, Kathryn!! It certainly makes a big difference on the portrait!! and the flower looks good already.
