This was a study only, to give me a chance to work out colors and background. I've decided to put in the part of his body showing beyond the head and neck; originally it looked rather awkward, but seems OK here. The shadows of the horse will be variations of lavenders and greys, using quin. red, quin. burnt orange and cobalt blue. For the more intensely colored areas, I will use indanthrone blue in the mix instead of cobalt blue. I like the background I did for Pat Elliott's Missy, and I am going to do something similar here, using quin. red, quin. burnt orange and cobalt blue again, pinker on the upper left and bluer on the lower right. I may take a bit of that into the body and lower neck, to give them a bit of a receding look. And yes, I did get a bit heavy-handed with the orange along his neck. :) I have been sick thinking about this all day, and I hate to have to write it, but Desi is not doing well. Barring a miracle, and I'm all for those, she will have to be put to sleep when she becomes too uncomfortable. My sister is trying Floressence; it can't hurt, and might help. What else can I say???
As always, your comments are most welcome. |
sorry for desi katharyn...this one will be beautiful ..wonderful greys katharyn
ReplyDeleteLook forward to seeing this develop, Kathyrn ...it looks like this could be a classic.
ReplyDeleteReally sorry about Desi, life is so tough. I lost my two dogs within two weeks after 15+ years, so I really sympathise
Do you know, when I saw the painting, before I read the words, I thought, that looks like Missy's pic, except its a horse! :)
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to read about Desi, Its never easy, this stage. Love and light to you all xx
I really feel for your sister. We lost our dog, Codi, on last Christmas day of all days. It was the most painful experience we'd ever been through and needless to say, the worst Christmas we'd ever had :0( I really hope Desi pulls through and recovers. I will never get another dog now - couldn't go through losing one again! It's an awful worry isn't it? Anyway - i'll be hoping for Desi.
ReplyDeleteNow - the horse... well what can I say except 'wow already!'
I am sure it will work, it looks great! I am so sorry about Desi, I hope she gets better.
ReplyDeleteYour painting is coming along very nicely, Kathryn!
ReplyDeleteI am very saddened by the news about Desi. I know firsthand the pain of losing a beloved dog. Somehow the word "dog" doesn't seem appropriate. They are very much a part of the family.
My prayers are with you and your sister...and Desi.
For us ignorant about animals people, what is Floressence? If it can't hurt and can only help, I say go for it. Sad losing a dear pet. My Tony Tulips is still with me though he's been gone decades.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you decided to add more of Trigger's body. The head alone looked detached.
I'm so sorry to hear about Desi. That is heartbreaking, they do become family and love them just as much. Hopefully there will be a miracle.
ReplyDeleteYour painting is really coming along beautifully Katherine! I don't think the orange is too much, I think it will add life to the greys perfectly.
Gosh, you are so great at horses.. It just comes so natural to you. Can't wait to see all those colors come together!
ReplyDeleteI'm soooo sorry to hear about Desi, Kathryn!! A very tough call.!!
ReplyDeleteThis painting is coming out beautifully! Your paintings of horses are always excellent.
I like the decisions you have made in your study, Kathryn - and completely agree with adding part of the body - it anchors the foreground and reads well.
ReplyDeleteI am so very sorry to hear about Desi's illness, My heart goes out to you and your sister - even so, I will wish for a miracle.
To have a body behind the head gives a good movement to the painting Kathryn,
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Irina
Dear Kathryn:( I'm so sorry to hear that Desi is not doing well. I'm very late with my comment so I hope she is still around! It must have been a bad day for you to find out she is very sick. Painting is not really important anymore at such times. I was you very much strenght and hope she will do fine. Take care!!
ReplyDeleteLe felicito por la forma tan delicada de pintar los caballos. Hay un dibujo exquisito y un dominio importante de la luz y el color. Felicitaciones y gracias por compartir el proceso. Saludos
