Good Call, Sandy
Before
I would like to give a "thank you" to Sandy at http://sandysandysweblog.blogspot.com for her advice. It was a simple fix that made all the difference to this small painting. I just darkened the leaves that were a distraction from the flower.
I think the advice has worked out well here. Its looking really nice. all the best for your class. I would love to see the pieces you paint there. Best wishes,
Yes Kathryn, Now that was what I was talking about! : ) I love the quick fix!! Now when I squint, my eye is led from the leaf on the left back up the right side to the flower. It may not be possible here, but - if you could lift a few - try 3 of varying size - lighter spots (like above) on the background lower right (but not too close to the edge- near the leaves and your initials), I think you would be happier with the value there as well. FYI- I discuss value quite a bit on www.SketchingEveryday.com here. Thanks for the very nice reply to my advice. "He only profits from praise who values criticism." (Heinrich Heine)
Wow.. I thought it looked great in the before! It's crazy how darkening those leaves made it even more amazing! Great job! And I think I may have said it in an earlier post.. but I LOVE the splotches in the background! Stunning piece!
Absolutely wonderful piece of art Kathryn. The flower is glowing from inside and the back ground is very complimenting (not pushing and dominating) now. Great accomplishment! Thank you for sharing the story. Irina
