Finally Finished the Gourds
I left them here, unable to decide how to give a background that was not too detailed, but gave some depth and a bit of a "story". Also, I was not keen to mask the gourds, possibly damaging their rich coloration.
I put a thin wash of new gamboge over the entire background, dried it, and then put in a thin graded wash of phthalo blue/cobalt blue for the sky. Then I painted the suggestion of grasses around the fence with mixes of gamboge, carmine and cobalt blue. I think it's enough - depth and an idea of space.
Oh my gosh! I think these gords are the happiest gords in the world to have their portraits painted! They are beautiful as they sit on the fence, and the grasses reaching through to touch them! love tweedles
I too think it is great. The rich colors on the gourds are awesome; background or no background.
ReplyDeletethat's just the ticket - enough of a hint of farm land to make it perfect! xx
ReplyDeleteKathryn I love this! The gourds really beg for being painted, their shapes and colors are so inviting , beautiful composition! xox
ReplyDeleteI like what you did with the background here Kathryn.
ReplyDeleteWonderful colors on these gourds, Kathryn!! I like that the background is subtle, not taking away from the gourds!! Perfect.
ReplyDeleteI like the simplicity of this - the limited colour palette works very well too. Bravo!
ReplyDeletebeautifully done!
ReplyDeleteI like what you did with the background, simple, subtle but certainly gives depth. The gourds are really well done.
