I started a small painting of this clematis, think ing I would be done in a day. |
Four days later, the flower does not stand out like the photo. Maybe another round of glazing the background, and deepening the shadows on the flower??? |
Thoughts and tangential meanderings on horses, painting, and anything else that captures my interest

Ces chaussures ont retrouvé une nouvelle jeunesse :)
ReplyDeleteBon week-end Katryn.
Your old scuffies look pretty good. Darkening shadows and background did the trick.
ReplyDeleteDeepening the shadows on the flower is where to start. The background isn't as dark as the background of the photo if you're looking to stick to the photo? Happy painting. Wish my clematis problem was as easy as a coat of glaze. I'm just trying to get my clematis in the garden positioned happily. I've been trying for twelve years. What's one more?
Love the shoes with terracotta background.. Reminds me a nice old Italian house wall.
ReplyDeleteIt is funny, you mentioned the one day project that stretched into four days one. I just did the same with my California Poppies... Yeah, one thing is what we think and another thing is how our art takes over and moves our lives, eh :0)
Cheers Kathryn!
Have a great weekend.
Irina
I really admire how much painting you do; it seems like everyday you are working on a project! All that practice really makes a difference and it shows!
ReplyDeleteThe shoes are perfect! And the Clematis just needs some more and warmer shadowing , but really lovely already. Have a nice weekend.
ReplyDeleteThe sneakers came out SO good, Kathryn...and love the sketches.
ReplyDeleteI just got back from Kentucky to see the Horse farm and thought of you!! They had some beauties there. I look forward to seeing your flower finished!!
Wow, you've been busy! Love the shoes - perfection!! And the clematis just needs darkening those intense shadows in the flower and you'll be done. Love the puppy eyes, too.
ReplyDeleteYes the shoes are great. I agree just bump up the shadows on your flower and you will be happy
ReplyDeleteGreat work Kathryn! You have so much patience! Once I put a painting down, I rarely go back to it... I bore way too easily! That dog is SO cute! :0)
ReplyDeletekatharyn trainers are beautiful rendered ... i know you will get the delicate balance with the clematis right.
ReplyDeleteI love pitbulls!!!!! Sorry, a bit to enthoustiastic? Please finish this painting. I love it already!
ReplyDeleteAnd your shoes: they become more beautiful each time you change something:) I also love the clematis. You took a very difficult one but so nice! Is it growing in your garden? I can't wait to see how you will finish it!
