She looks more like a dog - eyes darkened, and the first wash of a background color. |
... and Drake looked quite strange at this point. |
I quickly added some shadows, and more detail around eyes, nose and mouth. |
Thoughts and tangential meanderings on horses, painting, and anything else that captures my interest

We love seeing the progress of your paintings. They always amaze us and make us smile ☺
ReplyDeleteI love this stage! The dog comes alive to me once eyes and nose are painted!
ReplyDeleteHehe! I can so relate! I call it the 'teenage stage'... the one where I am tempted to just put my foot through it! But usually it all comes together in the end... Patience is a virtue :0)
ReplyDeleteComing along wonderfully!
ReplyDeleteWe always go through the "eek" stage....this is why I admire you for doing WIP ... the end result is always amazing. Love it so far!!
ReplyDeleteme too! i love the progress shots you share gunkness!! i am so familiar with the "eek" stage and so impatient i often run for hilsl because the eekness is too much to bear!
ReplyDeletethank you so much for your kind words and i wish you the best of everything in the coming year....the year of the Gunk!
I know what you mean when you say the EEEK stage.....that is a dangerous time.....in the old days I'd tear up the EEEK stage.....oh no....
ReplyDeletebut even your EEEk stage looks good:)
Happy New Year!!!
Love your 'EEK' stage .... I get those but don't show the World till I get to the 'Ugly' Stage LOL. I know this will be another triumph!
ReplyDeleteDon't tell me I just threw out an eeek painting and shouldn't have! I had wiped out so much of it, I figured it was easier to start from scratch. My eeek was a poor initial drawing. Underdeveloped does not an eeek painting make. These dogs are not dogs of a painting. :-))
ReplyDeleteGood evening Kathryn,
ReplyDeleteAs soon as the eyes are in they just come alive... Funny how a little more detail on the eyes does the trick. Drake already looks alive... Can't wait to see more.
Thank you so much for your most encouraging words. I always enjoy reading your comments... I am so happy you enjoyed.
blessings,
Penny
I don't see ekk,, I see magic happening!
