Taking It Slowly ...

This painting will be fairly large, about 17 x 21 inches of framable image, when completed. I'm going quite slowly, many layers of glazing. And, contrary to my usual habit, I am painting the background first. I thought this wiser, as the peony has such beautiful, light values. I hope to finish the leaves this weekend, and paint all the background preparatory to starting the flower. To be continued ...

  1. It looks wonderful Kathryn! I really love the way you paint the leaves, I think green is so tricky to get right. :)

  2. That is going to be gorgeous when you complete it. I love all the flowers people are painting right now, guess most are tired of winter.

  5. I love the way you create your paintings slowly and with patience... sometimes it needs time to let the idea unfolding and growing... I find that sometimes it's better if I stop to paint and restart the day after, because I see better after a pause, and I have less risks to ruin all because of hurry... Have a good Sunday!
