Moving Right Along ...

The anthurium was starting to look overworked at an earl stage, so I took it off the board. Then, I thought I should play with a bit. I tried a background a la Arleta Pech - didn't work. Maybe I'll try it again in the future.

I did two sketches of the haunted house, with the lighting coming from different directions, to determine which would look more ominous. I think the bottom photo definitely looks spookier.

And I received Anne's "brutal" criticism. I don't think there is anything there that I don't completely agree with, and some I saw before I sent it to her. I just needed some expert advice before I committed to it's completion.
As ever, please feel free to leave your comments. Love them!

  1. It's a nice design Kathryn. I like the second haunted house better too. It has to do with the tree. Trees without leaves can be spooky looking.

  2. Just love Annes comments, really constructive! Buddy is gorgeous the way he is, but with Annes advice he will be perfect. And I hope that spooky haunted house is not too near your place...I remember when you showed a photo of it, really did look like something from a horror film. xx

  3. Hi, I definitely like the second haunted house, far more scary. I love Buddy's picture but I can understand Anne's comments. She is right but I still like him.
I just want to a workshop on framing watercolour without glass, have you looked into that yet?

  5. I agree with you about the lighting of the haunted house. I love the little sketch! And how helpful to be able to have a person who won't hold back! At least you know exactly what direction to take next :0)

  6. Great advice from Anne,it reminds me of when I sent in some of my art work for marking as it was part of a an exam and they came back with tracing paper on top with notations and corrective marks all over it.Although I was surprised at how much was wrong with each drawing I actually found it very helpful.

  7. Where can I find the ref. photo of Buddy? I'd like to see what Anne is seeing. The anthurium looks pretty good to me. Knowing you, I bet you could still pull it off! I think the sketch looks a bit too perfect for a spooky theme. I'd make the roof sag, chimney lean, foundation crumble, shutters fall off etc. In other words, exaggerate! I'd also move my vanishing points out more, esp. on the left.
