The Nestling

I found this tiny nestling on a sheet I had placed under the nest. For some reason, there is almost always one that falls or is pushed from the nest. I felt compelled to paint him, as a quiet eulogy to his brief life.

I went very bright to start, as I would be getting quite dark, and wanted  the brightness to shine through.

Slowly intensifying colors. I've decided to use all completely transparent colors.

I've started  to get into the darks/shadows now.

As always, your comments are most welcome.

  1. This is a great blog - I like the way you show your step by steps to the finished painting. I've become a follower and am adding your page to my blog list so that I can keep up with new posts, thanks for sharing, Sharon

  3. Well you have picked a subject that I wouldn't think of. I am really squeamish when it comes to anything dead! That said, you are turning something sad in to something that had a purpose after all, however brief. I am looking forward to seeing it all finished :0)
