HORSES!

I had left this one for a while. I didn't know exactly what I wanted to do with it, nor did I have the courage to work on it, and risk mucking it up. Linda Roth  [blog friend] gave me the impetus to work on it again. She gave me some advice from her reading of R. Schmidt ... darker, more shadow.

So I have darkened the background in a manner suggestive of falling rain, and I am now darkening the shoulder and neck of the horse, creeping up towards the head. I would like to achieve more than a "picture of a horse". I think I am heading in the right direction. Thank you, Linda!

I have also started another painting of the filly. My thoughts with this are to put together an ebook. So far, I have a lot of photos and no writing, but it will come.

As always, your comments are most welcome!

  2. Your horse paintings are always a pleasure to see, and these are no exception, I love the way you do your backgrounds and the shadows are so skillfully done. Incidentally my facebook painting challenge is of a horse this month, I'll be posting it to my blog as well

  6. enriching the surroundings- yes! there isn't any way to make a mistake with this horse. Everything you've done shows your confidence. You're making it so hard for me to have a favorite - piglets, chickens, or horses??

  8. It's tough when you reach that stage where it's going so well that your afraid to spoil it! I know that feeling well! But it's good to be brave! Looking great so far :0)

  10. Hi! I´ve been looking at all the paintings on this first page, and they are all very nice. Horses, pigs and birds all together. I also think that more shadows on the horse was the right way to go. Contrasts does alot in a painting that´s for sure. About the different eyecolours on that dog; I´ve seen people with different eyecolours too. But it is strange that it becomes two colours. I don´t know why. See you around!

  13. I think Linda was dead on, the shadow is really pushing this into territory beyond 'another pretty horse picture' I love it so far. And the filly is darling, can't wait to see some more of her. :))
