Divertissement

To keep myself from fretting about world events, I am working on four paintings.
The portrait is of my niece, from a photo taken earlier this summer. I am trying a different technique [for me] - painting with the easel in an almost upright position.
I am making another attempt with hydrangeas. I think the painting is half-way done.
The cocker spaniel is also getting touch-ups. Her owners and I met again last week, and I saw that her coloring is very dark, only her face has touches of white on the chin. And I have started a landscape; so far, it is only streaks of color indicating sky and trees.

Thank you for dropping by, and your comments are always welcome!

  2. Sounds like you have lots on the go. The weather is rainy so good time to paint! Loved the sweet peas from the last post.

  3. Wow, that's quite an undertaking! Your niece is lovely and it looks like the painting is going to be too. I admire your detailed drawing of the hydrangeas; you could have been a medical illustrator--very explicit. That is a hydrangea I haven't seen before. Very interesting. And isn't it amazing how much more we see in a subject after we've spent some time on them at the easel? Making art opens our eyes.

  6. Hi Kathryn,

Your Niece is beautiful and the reference photo has wonderful lighting! I really look forward to seeing how she emerges in your painting!

Glad to see another hydrangea painting in the works too!

I had to look up the definition of "divertissement" as I had never heard it before and am happy to learn a new word! Now I've just got to remember it! Perfect for the current "state the Union" may head us in.

  7. Painting in an upright position is an interesting experience. I've done it once or twice with varying results. Both paintings look great! And those world events are indeed worrying, but what can we do?
